For player use, equipping it with a Black Hole Generator and an EMP Torpedo is effective against larger and slower ships, although dual Plasma Throwers deal much higher damage at the cost of range. Another option is to use five Small Plasma Webs.
Lowering its weight or installing a Warp Drive helps with its lack of mobility, as it doesn't get many engine slots for its weight.
Like other Taraniak ships the Tarantula is slow, however it's heavily armored and armed. Ships with a good turn rate are highly recommended when fighting these.
- Non-veterans are armed with a Heavy Anti-Matter Bomb and Heavy Plasma Torpedo M1. They are not fast and don't possess a Warp Drive, thus a fast ship can avoid their high damage weapons.
- Veterans are armed with a Black Hole Generator and an EMP Torpedo. They also have Warp Drive for short range teleportation. This variant is especially dangerous as the mixture of warping away and leaving both black holes and EMP torpedoes behind is very hard to attack without taking damage. Coupled with their regeneration, the player is forced to go after them almost recklessly. It is advised to destroy them as soon as possible and/or equip Cloaking System to minimize the damage of the Black Hole Generator.
